On the 12th of May, I’ll be working alongside Kirsten Luckins, director of the Tees Women Poets, and Nici Moore, founder of ConfiDance, to deliver an exciting workshop where dance meets poetry. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a dancer but I love a good two-step if I get the chance. This event will combine the skills of poetry writing with dancing. We’ll be creating positive affirmations; mantras and gratitudes, with CondiDance choreography that focuses on the synergy of movement and rhythm. This will be an empowering experience, and we aim to instil a sense of self-assurance within you so you can leave feeling inspired and confident in your own skin.
Why are we working together?
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Nici at events we’ve both been at in the past, and her vibrant energy emanates out of her. Her ethos is all about unlocking your powerful potential through the use of dance. She encourages dancers of all and no experiences, with a focus on the benefits dance provides to a person. Sound familiar? ConfiDance is essentially a dance version of Write Yourself Well, so I knew from the moment I met her that I wanted to collaborate with her.
What’s our aim?
We are inviting women of all writing or dance backgrounds to come along and join us for a fun, empowering afternoon writing and moving with no pressure or judgement. Whether you’re looking to expand your creative skills; connect with like-minded individuals; or you’re just wanting to try something different- come along and have a play with us!
Why am I so excited for this event?
I love to blend different creative expressive outlets. From painting, collaging and drawing, I like to dabble in a variety of different modalities. I’ve also done some writing playspaces with the TWP that incorporated movement with writing and came out with some really interesting pieces. I’m also a huge advocate for self-empowerment and learning to love ourselves, which is a journey in itself so I’m looking forward to carrying this on through SheSpeaks, SheDances and to include other people with this. Myself and Kirsten will also be doing a short poetry performance each, and we’ll be demonstrating how you can start, improve or explore spoken word in your lives. Without giving too much away, I think the writing exercises I’ve developed will encourage a great deal of self-love to build up yourself and people around you.
How do I get involved?
Tickets can be purchased here and if you have any questions prior to the event, drop myself, the TWP or Nici a message.
